Zoo-o-logic

All of you are so beautiful and unique in your own way!

Don't you love visiting the zoo?
Though sometimes I wish they didn't have to be separated from their natural environments...

Birthday!

It was my boyfriend's birthday on this week - I baked a cake... something I do not usually do.

Just made up a random cake and decorated it with my amateur skills. woot!

I hope you football fans understand the design :)

Date night?

What's a simple meal that can satisfy your significant other?

For me- I can be won over easily by steak.
So, I decided to cook a peppercorn steak for my boyfriend, with a few grilled potatoes rubbed in olive oil and herbs.

Recipe for peppercorn sauce:

  • peppercorn
  • ground pepper
  • salt
  • soy sauce
  • oyster sauce
  • onion (a quarter of one)
  • garlic
  • flour
  • olive oil
  1. dice the onion and garlic into small pieces
  2. heat the pan on medium heat and spread a dollop of olive oil on the pan
  3. first place garlic in the pan, and once it's browned place onion
  4. once they are both caramelized, add water (depending on how much sauce you want to make) I usually just guess how much water I want, because you can always add more later
  5. Just like the water, you can decide on how much soy sauce and oyster sauce you want to put in. But if you're unsure, just add 2 table spoons or soy sauce and 1 table spoon of oyster sauce
  6. add black peppercorn and ground pepper

A visit from a Parisienne

After waking up from a nightmare, I decided to make myself one of my favorite dishes.
Crepe.

It's so simple, versatile and yummy.

The Parisian Crepe:

Serves 8-10 crepes

Batter:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 &1/2 cup water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup milk
You want the mixture to be smooth with little chunks and more runny than pancake batter

Filling:
  • mushrooms
  • swiss cheese
  • dill (dried or fresh)
  • red onions (thinly sliced)
  • 1 small egg (or half of a large egg) - beaten
  • salt
  • pepper
  1. mix batter ingredients
  2. pre-heat pan to medium heat
  3. spread butter on pan
  4. pour a thin layer of batter on pan and spread
  5. when batter is slightly cooked, but still soft, turn it over with a spatula
  6. spread scrambled egg on top half of the crepe
  7. place swiss cheese on top of the egg
  8. place red onion slices then mushroom
  9. sprinkle with salt and pepper
  10. add pieces of dill to finish
  11. fold crepe with a spatula and serve

Take the time...

Sometimes I enjoy baking, sometimes it takes too long and drains me.
But the best part is taking the time to make something :) Even if they aren't the most beautiful creations.

This little cafe (Nadege) is adorable :)
And I happen to love macaroons.
